KHON on Envision Lā‘ie and KSCP Draft Plan
Envision Lā‘ie was the lead story on Thursday’s KHON 6 p.m. newscast and they are now conducting a survey. You can vote in favor of growth for BYU-Hawaii and Laie if you support the plans.
The video and story reports on the release of the Ko‘olau Loa Sustainable Communities Plan. “The latest Kolau Loa Sustainable Communities plan has been released for public review. The map’s boundaries include an expansion of the Brigham Young University, and a Malaekahana Residential Community, plus commercial and industrial there too.”
Here are two of the positive comments in favor of growth:
“I want planned growth, where we determine what type of growth is needed and how much,” said Delsa Moe, a plan supporter. “I’d like to see more people afforded that opportunity to have some jobs made available to them here and get them off the highways so they spend more time with the families rather than on the roads commuting.”
“We need to grow, if we don’t grow we’re going to die,” said Laie Community Association member Pane Meatoga. “This is a community based vision of what we want,” Meatoga. “It’s a planning process from the inside out. The community dictates and sets forth what we’re looking for in our community.”
