Submit your comments on KSCP Draft Plan
A lot of people are talking about the Ko‘olau Loa Sustainable Communities Plan (KSCP) public review draft, with an article and editorial appearing in The Honolulu Star-Advertiser, an article in Honolulu Weekly, and brief in Pacific Business News. According to the City and County’s Department of Planning and Permitting, “The deadline for providing comments on the Public Review Draft is December 15, 2010.” You can have your voice heard by sending comments directly to:

Re: Comments regarding the proposed Laie Sustainable Communities Plan
Sirs:
I am a resident of Laie for over 1 year and would like to present some comments regarding the proposed “Envision Laie” plan. I am a firm believer that opportunities need to be provided for citizens in their communities. We have seen uncontrolled growth in some areas that has proved a nightmare for all. A master Plan/controlled growth in an area away from Kamehameha Highway, as proposed by the Envision Laie would benefit all and still preserve the country atmosphere .
I welcome the opportunity for all sides to express their opinions, thoughts and ideas.
I am very appalled at the “DefendOahu Coalition.org” mailer I received today as a blatant “Scare everyone tacit”. They have distorted the Envision Laie plan, and quoted “out of context”. I site just three examples:
In their 2nd paragraph they state, “All communities will bear the burden of such large scale development, lack of infrastructure, …..” There is no “lack of infrastructure” in the Envision Laie Plan, as it is specifically addresses the addition of “infrastructure” in the plan.
In their 3rd paragraph they ask the question to Permitting Dir. David Tanoue, “what he would do if this project resulted in traffic gridlock from Kaneohe to Haleiwa…” Well folks, wake up and smell the coffee! You already have grid- lock in this area BEFORE ANYTHING HAS CHANGED. The Envision Laie master plan was to remove cars off of the highway. And many of the BYUH students do not have cars.
In their “wrap-up” statement, they say, “HRI’s unsustainable “vision” would impact our entire island community, not just Laie!”. Honestly now this is just a scare statement. Did the Ko Olina Resort project impact this side of the island? The Defend Oahu Coalition implies that it did.
I don’t know the hidden agenda that this coalition has (such as protecting their private interests or enjoying their own businesses “monopolies”).
I feel that the Envision Laie has addressed all these issues and many others. And remember this is a Master Plan that can be changed as conditions and specific circumstances warrant.
Count me as, “In favor of the Envision Laie” and let’s go forward.
