Kaleo reports on latest public meeting
The Planning Advisory Committee (PAC) meeting Thursday Nov. 4 was a success, due largely to those who attended. A big mahalo to all those who came out to show their support. Though the venue was small and some were unable to sit in the meeting space, your presence bolstered the display of community-wide support for Envision Lā’ie and the city’s KSCP draft plan. Kaleo covered the meeting and here is a brief excerpt:
“There is a lot of process ahead of us to work out the details,” said R. Eric Beaver, President & CEO of Hawaii Reserves, Inc. (HRI), a major stakeholder in the Envision Laie process, which calls for new homes, churches, retail and light industrial improvements to be built on its property in Malaekahana. These, he added, “would provide opportunities for more people” to work closer to home.
Also speaking on that point, Hauula PAC member Cy Bridges noted that most of his 16 siblings have had to move away from Koolauloa for economic reasons, and he wished his children could find their own housing — a sentiment echoed by others.
“This draft supports the concerns and needs of the people,” responded Pane Meatoga, president of the Laie Community Association. The majority of the residents at the meeting was from Laie and wore light-blue tee shirts showing their support for the latest KLSCP draft.
The next public meeting to discuss Envision Lā‘ie is scheduled for Dec. 7, 2010 at 6:30 p.m. in the Kahuku High & Intermediate School cafeteria.
