“Lā‘ie is at a crossroad”

Ahead of the Tuesday, Dec. 7 Community Meeting on the Koolau Loa Sustainable Communities Plan, HRI President & CEO Eric Beaver writes in the latest issue of Pacific Business News that “Lā‘ie is at a crossroad.”

“The City & County of Honolulu’s draft Koolau Loa Sustainable Communities Plan gives us a critical opportunity to decide which way to turn. As it stands, life in Laie is a struggle. Families are being driven out. The shrinking population, lack of affordable homes and increase in second-home purchases are changing the character of our community. With fewer jobs per household, many people make the long commute to work in town and return to homes that have more people under roof than anywhere else on Oahu.”

More importantly, please attend Community Meeting and let your voice be heard: Tuesday, December 7th at 6:30 p.m. in the Kahuku High & Intermediate School cafeteria (tailgate starts at 5:30 p.m.).

FYI, Steve Hoag told me that Eric Beaver’s title is now just “president.”
