Laie Hotel Redevelopment Committee Hearing June 1
A Zoning Committee Hearing on the Laie Hotel Redevelopment will be held on Wednesday, June 1 at 6 p.m. in the Kahuku
High School cafeteria.
Are you in favor of…150 construction jobs…125 new jobs for residents, and students in BYU-Hawaii’s hospitality program…a hotel nearby for those visiting the Polynesian Cultural Center and local families…a venue for wedding receptions, family reunions and other gatherings?
Your support and attendance at the hearing is needed.
The Zoning Committee of the City Council will be in our community to hear resident input regarding the Laie Hotel Redevelopment. Opposing voices, some from outside our community, have been working hard to prevent opportunities for needed growth and jobs and will be at the hearing to voice their opinions. If you are in favor of growth that will benefit our community and institutions, it is vital that you attend.
Although the old Laie Inn site is already zoned for hotel and business use, a Special Management Area permit is needed due to the site’s proximity to the shoreline. If the SMA permit is granted by City Council, building permits for the hotel may be obtained, with groundbreaking anticipated at the end of this year. The goal is to have the hotel open for the Polynesian Cultural Center’s 50th Anniversary in 2013.
